This past month has certainly been busy and very eventful. In these days since our regional event we've had a flurry of local competitions as we hurry to beat the summer heat. It's been really exciting to see some of our members excel like never before in these competitions and hopefully it's just a sign of things to come.
On a sadder note it was announced that Irv Lander passed away on May 29th after a short, but serious illness. When I told him on April 25th that I'd see him in D.C. in September, he knew that I wouldn't. I only wish now that I would have reached out once more and given this man with such a big heart and warm smile one last hug. I only wish now that I could truly thank him for the joy his dreams and hard work have brought to me and my dogs. If you've ever enjoyed competing in a Frisbee contest you also owe Irv Lander a measure of gratitude.
There are countless people in and out of this sport who could write beautiful eulogies of Irv and his life, so I feel like for me to attempt to do so here in a limited way with limited knowledge and limited space would be a great disservice to his memory and many accomplishments. Perhaps the greatest thing that I can say about Irv is that he will live on in the thousands of hearts and minds he touched with his love, kindness, and inspiration and through this wonderful sport he loved and nurtured through its twenty-five year history.
