The fun match held on the morning of the Feb. 28 was just that -- FUN for all. We had about 25 dog teams compete in two rounds of mini distance. There were two divisions: A Novice division throwing on a 20 yard maximum field and an Advanced division throwing on a 40 yard maximum field. It was great practice for all and made some of us realize we still need additional distance practice. Others did great, however, with several high one round scores despite sometimes chilly winds gusting at 20 mph. Katie Carver said she was going to start practicing with flour on the field since her dog, Austin, took a liking to the flour yard markers at the competition. Austin was not alone in his choice of a morning snack, Ashlea Doty's dog, Baluka, liked the flour as well.
Ron Doan and Dusty won the advanced competition tying Bob Evans for first with a total score of 25, but pulling ahead of Bob by catching more discs overall. Way to go, Ron!! Jason Meeks with Copper won the novice division with a total score of 34. Jason is this the same dog who used to run into the crowd to say "Hello" ?? You guys have been working.
This contest was truly a "club" event with several members devoting their time to setup, running and breakdown. Thanks to Keith Friend for organizing the event and announcing the goings on during his time keeping. Thanks also goes out to Jim Still, Mike Dobbs, Jason Meeks and Paul West for all their help in setup and judging. Thanks to anyone else I forgot -- I saw a lot of people helping out.
