titions and the DDD club from Ron & Cyndy Ellis at the Cowboys and Canines exhibition at South Fork in summer of 1995. Ron & Cyndy talked them into going to a playday, as well as the fall Texas State Championships that year. They visited both and
even "entered" Nikki in the fall competition. They both had a pleasant surprise when Karen and Nikki won 1st place Novice at the State Championship and came home with a trophy. Nikki was only six months old!!
After this experience, the Fergusons were hooked. They joined the club and have really enjoyed the new "dog friends" they have made and especially like sharing a common interest with these new friends.
Since then Karen has continued competition with Nikki, placing in the top five in many of the local competitions. Some of her other local accomplishments include: 4th place Alpo Dallas Local 1996 - Best Newcomer,
4th place Oklahoma State Championship 1994 and 4th place Advanced Alpo Houston Local 1997. Most impressive is Karen's Regional success in the short time she and Nikki have been playing. Karen's goal was Best Novice for the 1996 Regionals since that was her first year to compete. She was
surprised and happy to make the top eight that year and come out 7th place overall. She continued that success in the 1997 South Central Regional with a 5th place in Division I. Way to go, Karen and Nikki!
Karen's favorite Frisbee tricks are Nikki's multiples and back flips. Everyone, including Karen, is impressed with Nikki's speed. This dog outruns the Frisbee on long throws nearly every time and has to double back
for the catch. I, personally, love the way Nikki lies down just before a catch or while waiting for a throw. It shows the true intensity and the "eye" associated with her breed.
